Hair Baby [Nov. 7th, 2006|01:58 pm]

[music |Into the Mystic, Van Morrison]

Don't forget to vote today, my (American) friends! I know we all have different political leanings, but I hope each of you will get out today and make your voice heard. It's so sad to me that many young adults, especially young women don't bother to vote. I voted this morning and am very jealous that some people at work received "I voted today" stickers and I did not. I may have to make my own sticker!

Tomorrow I plan to get my hair chopped off! I'm going to donate it Locks of Love, a nonprofit that provides wigs for children. I donated a few years ago and it's time again. My hair is too darn long! I'm hoping for a cute shoulder length like this one. For some reason I've always loved this wig from Alias season one.

Now if only I could get Jen Garner's body, I'd be all set! *lol*

Hello all! I wanted to post these yesterday, but alas got too distracted with all the holiday festivities! I hope everyone had a lovely Halloween and got more treats than tricks! :)

I always dress up and decorate at work and this year I talked my team into a Pirate theme. Take a peek! I think we made pretty good dirty pirate whores!

Halloween Meme from lostexil

1. What was your favorite Halloween costume as a kid?....as an adult?
As a kid I loved the Ewok costume my mom made for me and as an adult my favorites have been my Crashdown waitress uniform (from Roswell) and the Velma Kelly costume I made from the movie version of Chicago.

2. What is your favorite Halloween candy?
Anything chocolate!

3. Be honest....did you do any Halloween tricking as a kid?
We may have tp'd a house or two in high school, but nothing big.

4. Once upon a time it was safe to receive homemade Halloween treats. Did you ever get any of those? and which ones?
Not that I recall...

5. How old were you the last time you went trick or treating?
My freshman year in college! All the girls from my dorm dressed up and went trick-or-treating. We were poor college kids and could not pass up the lure of free candy!

6. Believe in ghosts?
Nope

7. What's the scariest movie you ever saw?
Hmm... I thought The Ring was pretty scary.

8. Was there a house you always avoided on Halloween night?
Yes, there was one house the next street over that always had a very elaborate display. They had music, props and the whole deal. The family actually dressed up as monsters and jumped out from the bushes. I was always too scared to go through their yard.

9. Who would go trick or treating with you as a kid?
My older brother and sister and my friends

10. Homemade costumes or store bought?
I had both as a child, but the homemade ones always meant more. Now I am all about homemade costumes. My Mom usually has to help me do the sewing, but I love creating my own costume. (I'm all about the details!)

11. And finally.... Trick or Treat?
Treat!

Last Halloween at work I was Dorothy from the Wizard of OZ.
We're off...

I was tagged by Carencey77! I can't keep track of who has or hasn't been tagged so if you haven't been tagged yet, consider this your tag!

1. I have a serious phobia about toads and frogs. I know it’s irrational, but I don’t think it’s a fear I will ever conquer. Just the thought of the things makes my skin crawl and photos have been known to make me shriek or jump. When they showed the tree frog on LOST I had to look away. I like to think that Sawyer squished that little guy just for me! (Kidding, of course. Though I fear and hate frogs I do not wish them bodily harm. I just want them to stay the fuck away from me.)

2. I still sleep with a stuffed animal. It is a stuffed “Benji” dog that I’ve had since childhood. His fur is all matted and he has morphed into a very unnatural dog shape that fits perfectly into the crook of my elbow. I’m not sure what it is, but when I sleep alone I feel like I need something to wrap my arm around. I’d like to retire Benji one day, but I’ll need someone else to wrap my arm around!

3. I majored in Criminal Justice in College until my junior year. I got to view autopsies, look at crime scene photos and took a class in serial killers. It’s something I still find interesting, but I realized that my passion was art so I changed majors. I had to basically start over with my credits and such, but it was worth it because now I have a career I love.

4. I’m the first person in my family to get a college degree.

5. I don’t like milk or anything that reminds me of milk. No sour cream, yogurt, whipped cream, alfredo sauce, cream cheese or anything like that. Yes, my friends often mock my aversion to eating anything “white & creamy.” They are perverts.

6. I am addicted to chapstick. Literally addicted. I have about six right now and my co-worker even has an “emergency chapstick” hidden at her desk in case I ever forget to bring one to work. It’s a problem…

Is it time for DLA3 yet? [May. 31st, 2006|01:38 pm]

[music |Fiona Apple: Sleep to dream]

This is my first post-DLA post since I was quickly sucked back into “real life” upon my return home. While all I wanted to do last week was play on the Internet and look at everyone’s pictures, instead I was working my butt off. It seems that all the work that was supposed to be done while I was gone got put off, so of course it was a mad dash at the end of the week trying to finish all sorts of art that had to be sent to China by Friday. Good times.

Over the weekend I was able to relax a bit, catch up on my laundry and resize all my pictures. I finally got them uploaded last night. My photobucket was one big messy folder, so it took me a while to break everything down into organized categories for your viewing pleasure.

I’ve barely been able to scroll my flist or look at pictures, so I hope everyone got home safe and sound! It should go without saying that I had an amazing time at DLA this year! Even with party mishaps and a smaller VIP list than last year, I have to say that I had more fun this time. That is solely due to the wonderful people I got to meet. I loved seeing so many people I adored from last year and I was lucky to meet more wonderful friends. Seriously, it’s you guys that make DLA so special. I feel lucky to be a part of this group of people. Thanks to my roomies, I could not have asked for better ladies to spend my time with. I love you girls! A special thank you goes to Hallie for dealing with all our front desk drama. You are wonderful, my dear! Okay, enough gushy love stuff...

Without further a do, here is the link to my pictures:

Screen names have been used to protect the innocent (or not-so-innocent!) If I used your real name, it probably means I didn’t know your screen name. So if you want your anonymity protected, just let me know. Also, if anyone wants a larger version of anything just let me know and I can e-mail it to you.

Hopefully I get a chance to scroll through my flist this evening.

Oh, and let me add OMGWTFSEASONFINALE! It blew my mind…

[music |none]

So, the other morning on my way to work I was stuck behind a large pick up truck on the freeway. I noticed something odd hanging from the the trailer hitch, but I thought my eyes were just deceiving me. Surely, the silver metallic thing dangling from the hitch couldn't be what I thought it was. Was I just being a pervert? It almost looked like a metallic... scrotum. As I passed the truck I took a closer look, and yes! There were shiny silver testicles swinging from the back side of the truck!

When I got to work I relayed my discovery to my coworkers. They all laughed, but I could sense a bit of disbelief so I decided to look for the truck balls on the internet. I googled "vehicle testicles" and lo and behold, I found this site...

Hi all!

I know I haven’t been around much lately, but I’m really trying to make an effort to stay in touch more. I’ve missed you guys and after a little nudge from OldManFan, I decided it was time for proper update. I have been very busy with work, but it seems that things are settling down so hopefully I’ll be able to have some Internet time during my lunches. While work has been crazier than ever the last few months, I realize that I am so lucky to have a job I love. We have been designing hundreds of new items for the scrapbooking section at JoAnn’s that should be in stores around July. Very exciting (to me anyway!)

So, as some of you may know I recently had a birthday. (Thanks to q, kaidy, The Partyman and anyone else who may have sent me birthday wishes that I missed. As I haven’t been able to scroll the ‘lage to catch up.) I am now 29. Yuck. I look at my self and think, “Is this who I want to be at 30?” While I love my job and have amazing friends, there are certain parts of my life I am not happy with, so I decided to challenge myself this year and came up with a list of 30 things to do before I turn 30 The list includes things that range from very personal to completely silly. The goal is to overcome some of my fears and change some of my bad habits. Here are a few excerpts for your enjoyment...

Get a Scuba Diving certification. I am planning on going back to Maui next spring and I want to Scuba Dive there. It was something I really regretted missing my first trip.

Make out with a stranger. I was going to put “Have a one night stand” but that seemed so out of character I knew I would never do it. So, making out is my back up.

Bikini wax. ‘Nuff said.

Take a dance class. I haven’t decided what kind of dance class yet, but I’m hoping it will help me be more confident and less self-conscious about my body.

Drive cross-country. This something I have always, always wanted to do.

Sing a Karaoke song alone. I’ll have to be very drunk as I have a horrible fear of public speaking. (As well as a horrible singing voice)

Get a tattoo. I already have one and have wanted another for years. I even know where I want it. Now I just need to decide what tattoo to get.

Join a gym. Not just join, but I actually have to go to said gym with some regularity.

There are others, some I'd rather keep to myself and a bunch I can't recall right now. I'll let you know my progress as I attempt to complete the list. I should have started this list about 5 years ago, then I would have had more time to finish it.

Wait, who the hell am I kidding? I still would have procrastinated until the very last month anyway...

YAY!

I'm about to head home from work and prepare myself for tonight's television goodness. I finally broke down and bought I new VCR yesterday (only $35!) so that I can tape LOST and watch Veronica Mars live. I really need to look into Tivo, but the VCR was an easy answer to my dilemma. The real question is why, oh why, must the few shows I religiously watch be scheduled at the same time. Am I being punished?

I have to thank tiggz, speaker and MARCEE who pimped VM to me at The Fuselage so many months ago. It was actually really perfect for me to watch during the summer because then I didn't have to deal with that pesky 3 month hiatus. I just saw the finale last week and now I get to find out who is at Veronica's door. (There are only two choices in my mind- Logan or Wallace. Though my hope is Logan.) What about V's mom? Grrr... I can't believe how selfish that woman is!

Being away from the 'lage for awhile has also been a bit of a blessing, as I have missed any spoilers. I'm going into tonight's LOST episode knowing just the small bit I gleaned from the promo. (Which was very little!) I'm looking forward to some surprises.

*Random shallow thought for the day- Josh's hair is far too long! Please, for the love of all that is good, let Sawyer cut his hair!!!

Okay I've blathered on enough. I must go...

So, long time no LJ... [Aug. 30th, 2005|12:17 pm]
[mood | uncomfortable]
[music |none]

I tend to keep my posts on the 'lage and LJ LOST or "fandom" related. I don't make it a point not to discuss my personal or "real" life, sometimes I just feel like it's not post worthy. While others might post about what they ate for diner or the color underwear they have on, I just don't. While I often enjoy reading the minute details of your lives, I tend to keep most personal stuff to myself. It's a problem I have in my "real" life as well. I'm not good at communicating my feelings. I even keep friends at a distance sometimes. I guess I don't like feeling vulnerable. Actually, I HATE feeling vulnerable. I don't like crying and I don't like not being able to control my emotions.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell everyone that the reason I was absent for the past few weeks was that my father was pretty ill in the hospital. On Thursday he died. I think I'm holding up pretty well, but I may just be fooling myself. I guess we'll see...

LOST in Michigan! [Aug. 11th, 2005|01:47 pm]

[mood | busy]
[music |Coldplay X&Y]

Hey guys!

I know I posted a commitment to at least one LJ post a week and that was over two weeks ago. I am an asshat. Sorry! Life and all that just keep getting in the way. :(

Anyway, I just wanted to post a little more information about the LOST IN MICHIGAN shindig. If you haven't already heard, the weekend DVD viewing party will take place Sept 16th & 17th at the Hyatt in Dearborn Michigan. If you aren't from the area, Dearborn is less than 15 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) and is in a great location. The hotel is located directly next to a large mall and movie theatre and minutes from a variety of bars and restaurants. If you are a history buff, you should check out The Henry Ford (formally known as The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village) or the Henry Ford Estate, both are just minutes from the hotel as is Ford World Headquarters. Of course, that is only if you want a break from the weekend long Lost-a-thon. You could also make the 15-minute drive downtown and visit one of three Detroit casinos. (The MGM Grand, The Motor City Casino or The Greektown Casino) There is a lot to do and see in the area if you want to extend your trip or may be bringing guests that aren't as obsessed with Lost as we are. (Hard to believe, I know)

If you are interested in attending the Lost in Michigan party, please let either I or [info]hijinx400 know so we may plan accordingly. If you plan on flying into Metro Airport I would be more than happy to shuttle people from the airport to the hotel. If you live in the area and are afraid you won't be able to attend due to lack of transportation let me know and we will try to work something out.

The group rate at the hotel is only $99 a night for a king or double! To make reservations call the Hotel's Reservation Department at (800) 233-1234. Please specify that you are part of the Lost in Michigan Rooms. The cut-off date for accepting reservations at the group rate will be Friday, August 26, 2005. All reservations MUST be guaranteed by credit card or check. In order to avoid being assessed a no-show charge, reservations must be cancelled by 3:00pm the day prior to arrival. The above rate will apply for single and double occupancies. An additional charge of $25.00 per person will apply for triple and quadruple occupancies. Every effort will be made to block your rooms close together. This will be contingent on availability at time of check- in. You may also make reservations online or get more information at http://dearborn.hyatt.com/groupbooking/lost

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask either hijinx400 or I. We are planning on an amazing weekend! Hope to see you there!

The signs are everywhere... [Jul. 24th, 2005|09:33 pm]

[music |Damien Rice- Cannonball]

So, I know I've been sort of absent from the 'lage and LJ over the last few months and I'm sorry! I'm trying to rectify that and am rededicating myself to this fandom! I have vowed to post at least one significant LJ post per week. (Significant in no way means witty or profound, so don't get your hopes up! I just mean an actual post that is not a meme.)

While I haven't been posting much about Lost, it is never far from my mind. In fact, I see the signs of Lost everywhere I look lately. It all started when I was driving past a cemetery near my office. I had driven past every day for 3 months and one day noticed something that literally made me gasp. (yes, I can be over-dramatic! so what?) It was this headstone:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I've been a huge Alias fan for four years now and have never heard about/seen/read about anyone is real life with the last name Bristow. This made me think about all the things I see that remind me of Lost. So I set out to document all the "Lost signs" I came across. Most were things I passed by everyday in or around Ann Arbor or during my commute. Is this proof that TPTB at Bad Robot are infiltrating the country with subtle clues to watch their shows, or is it proof that I've lost my mind? You decide...

See the evidence )
